Background

Redline Raceway is a community-driven speedway venue in Western Victoria, known for its exciting race nights and loyal fan base. Despite its popularity, the venue’s operations were largely manual, relying on cash-only transactions, pen-and-paper record keeping, and limited technology infrastructure.

This created bottlenecks at the gate, long lines at the bar, and no visibility into sales performance. Additionally, the absence of on-site internet coverage restricted any efforts to modernise systems or accept card payments across the venue.

Challenge

Refine Recovery faced a range of logistical and operational challenges:

  • No Online Ticketing or Pre-Sales:
    All tickets were sold at the gate, using cash, with no way to track attendance before race day.
  • Manual Entry Verification:
    Gate staff couldn't easily verify entry or check for duplicate/fraudulent tickets.
  • No POS for Bar & Food Sales:
    Bar and canteen transactions were cash-only, slow to process, and impossible to reconcile accurately.
  • No Site-Wide Network Connectivity:
    Without a reliable network, the venue couldn't run cloud-based systems, making modern payment options or real-time sales reporting impossible.
The Solution

Distinct delivered a complete digital transformation, combining custom software development with a high-performance UniFi wireless network deployment—tailored specifically for the needs of a rural motorsport venue.

Our solution included:

  • Custom Online & On-Site Ticketing Platforms:
    A fully branded online portal now allows fans to pre-purchase tickets using card payments, while on-site tickets enable quick in-person sales with both cash and EFTPOS. QR codes are issued for digital check-in at the gate.
  • Point-of-Sale for Bar & Concessions:
    We implemented a lightweight but robust POS system that supports:

    • Cash and card payments
    • Real-time stock tracking
    • Detailed end-of-event sales reporting
  • Venue-Wide UniFi Wi-Fi Infrastructure:
    To support the new systems, we deployed a UniFi-based wireless network spanning over 15 acres of the venue. This network:

    • Enables seamless connectivity for gate, bar, and staff devices
    • Supports future expansion of surveillance, live timing, or streaming
    • Provides secure, segmented Wi-Fi for staff and guests
  • Centralised Reporting Dashboard:
    Refine management now has real-time visibility into ticket sales, bar revenue, and system activity—all from a simple admin interface.
The Outcome

The implementation of a custom ticketing and POS system—combined with a powerful wireless backbone—has completely modernised Refine Recovery's event operations. Fans can now purchase tickets online, skip queues, and pay by card across the venue. Staff have a faster, more reliable workflow, and management has access to actionable data after every event.

Most importantly, Refine Recovery has seen a significant improvement in revenue and accountability, with greater efficiency, less cash handling, and full control over its event ecosystem.
